The State Bureau of Investigation has documented three attempts to smuggle weapons out of Ukraine since the start of the war

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the State Bureau of Investigations has uncovered three attempts to illegally transport specific types of weapons across the state border.

According to State Bureau of Investigations Director Oleksiy Sukhachov, both military personnel and civilians were involved in these attempts. In all cases, law enforcement officers managed to stop the illegal transport, and the suspects were detained while attempting to cross the border.

Sukhachov noted that combating the illegal trafficking of weapons is one of the Bureau’s top priorities. This includes, in particular, captured weapons, weapons received as part of international aid, as well as models currently in service with the Defense Forces or being developed by Ukrainian manufacturers.

The State Bureau of Investigation believes that certain parties may be interested in obtaining Ukrainian weapon models for further use in other armed conflicts.

To prevent such crimes, the Bureau is cooperating with the Security Service of Ukraine’s (SBU) counterintelligence unit, border guards, the National Police, the National Guard, and other components of the Armed Forces. This collaboration involves the exchange of operational intelligence and the coordination of actions to prevent and investigate the illegal trafficking of weapons.

The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) did not detain SBU special forces officers for firing on General Staff Intelligence Directorate (GUR) personnel.

A video of a confrontation involving gunfire between employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate in Kyiv is circulating online. The released footage shows a verbal altercation and shoving match between those involved in the incident, which later escalated into SBU special forces firing at GUR operatives.
