MP Yurchenko Received a Prison Sentence in a Bribery Case
The High Anti-Corruption Court found People’s Deputy Oleksandr Yurchenko guilty of receiving an unlawful benefit and sentenced him to 9 years in prison, along with a 3-year ban on holding certain positions and the confiscation of his property.
The trial concerned the solicitation of a bribe in exchange for amending legislation on the processing of solid household waste in the interests of a foreign company. According to the investigation, in 2020, as part of a special operation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) involving an undercover detective, the lawmaker, through his assistant Fischenko, requested that $13,000 be transferred to him for making amendments to the bill, as well as $200,000 to bribe members of the relevant parliamentary committee.
Yurchenko has become the third sitting member of parliament to receive a prison sentence from the Anti-Corruption Court, and the verdict may currently be appealed.

In September 2020, Member of Parliament Oleksandr Yurchenko was served with a notice of suspicion for receiving and soliciting a bribe in the amount of $200,000.
Bail in the amount of 3,165,600 hryvnias was posted on his behalf.
For his part, Oleksandr Yurchenko stated that he had not committed any illegal acts and intends to “continue fighting.”
