Pension Supplement After Age 65: Who Is Eligible for an Increase

Ukrainian retirees may receive a pension increase once they reach the age of 65. However, not everyone is eligible for this supplement; only citizens who meet the criteria established by law are eligible.

According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, once a person reaches the age of 65, the state guarantees a minimum pension amount to certain categories of citizens.

Pensioners are eligible for the increase if they:

  • have reached the age of 65;
  • are not working;
  • have the required insurance period:
    • 35 years—for men;
    • 30 years for women;
  • receive a pension that is less than the guaranteed minimum.

After the recalculation, the minimum pension payment for this category of pensioners cannot be less than 3,758 hryvnias.

If a pensioner is already receiving more than 3,758 hryvnias, no additional increase is provided.

The increase applies not only to old-age pensions.

If the relevant conditions are met, individuals receiving disability, length-of-service, or survivor’s pensions may also be eligible for the recalculation.

The supplement is granted automatically, so there is no need to contact the Pension Fund separately.

If, upon reaching age 65 and provided all necessary conditions are met, the pension remains below the guaranteed amount, the Pension Fund recommends contacting the hotline or the nearest service center to verify the accuracy of the calculations.

Working retirees are not eligible for this increase.

The recalculation will be carried out only after official retirement from work, provided the person meets all other established requirements.

Separate state guarantees apply to pensioners who have the status of combatant (UB).

The minimum pension payment for combat veterans is 5,528 hryvnias, regardless of the pensioner’s age.

This information is available on the Pension Fund’s website.

The Ukrainian government is considering a phased increase in the minimum pension as part of a long-term plan through 2029. Currently, the minimum pension is 2,595 hryvnias, and this amount may be revised in the future depending on the economic situation and budgetary constraints.

The Pension Fund will continue digitizing employment records after June 10.

The process of digitizing employment records is underway in Ukraine and is scheduled to be completed by June 10, 2026.

Here’s a reminder of the requirements for digitizing employment records.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine also explained what will happen to the non-digitized work history records of Ukrainians.
