Two soldiers from the "Skelya" regiment are suspected of torturing their comrades in the Kirovohrad region
Law enforcement officers detained two servicemen from the medical company of the “Skelya” Assault Regiment who are suspected of beating and unlawfully detaining two fellow soldiers in the Kirovohrad region. According to the State Bureau of Investigations and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Southern Region, the suspects have been notified of charges of torture and violations of statutory rules governing relations among military personnel.
The investigation established that in May 2026, the two soldiers were discharged from the hospital for violating the established regimen and were sent to the unit’s medical detachment. After that, according to investigators, a 30-year-old driver-electrician and a 28-year-old medical instructor from the unit decided to “punish” them on their own for the disciplinary violations.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspects struck the victims numerous times, then locked them in a utility building and continued to abuse them. One of the soldiers lost consciousness. He was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury, a broken nose, and other physical injuries.

According to the investigation, the other victim was unlawfully detained for nearly another day. He was later also taken to the hospital with a traumatic brain injury, numerous contusions, and hematomas.
The suspects have been notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 127 and Part 3 of Article 406 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These articles carry a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. The issue of imposing pretrial detention on the suspects is currently being decided.
The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) stated that the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Investigators are also looking into specific reports of possible mistreatment of military personnel at the regiment’s deployment and training sites.
