Butusov listed three main criteria for evaluating Drapato
The new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, will be judged primarily by the situation on the front lines, rather than by personnel changes or public statements. This opinion was expressed by Yuriy Butusov, commander of the UAV company of the 23rd Assault Regiment of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard “Charter.” He identified three main criteria that, in his view, will demonstrate the new commander’s effectiveness.

According to Butusov, during wartime there are three key indicators that reveal how effectively the commander-in-chief is performing. “Can the army hold the front line, preventing an enemy advance, and can the army inflict unacceptable losses on the enemy while minimizing its own losses many times over? In fact, these are the three criteria: territory, the rate of enemy casualties, and the rate of our own casualties,” he said.
According to Butusov, it is precisely these three indicators—the situation on the front lines, Russian troop losses, and Ukrainian army losses—that will serve as the primary measure of the new commander-in-chief’s performance. At the same time, he emphasized that Mykhailo Drapatiy took command of the Armed Forces at a very difficult moment in the war.
According to Butusov, the Russian army continues its active offensive in the Donetsk region. Fighting continues for Kostiantynivka, Russian troops are advancing toward Druzhkivka and Sloviansk, and the area around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, in his assessment, is in a critical situation. Under these conditions, the military official notes, the new commander-in-chief will have to make important decisions almost immediately, with no time for a lengthy adjustment period or a gradual change in the command structure.
Butusov also pointed out that Drapato’s success will depend not only on his personal experience but also on the people working alongside him. In his view, one of the main challenges will be forming a strong leadership team and quickly restructuring the command system in line with the actual situation on the front lines.
At the same time, Butusov emphasized that the final assessment of the new commander-in-chief’s performance will be based on the results of combat operations. It is these results—not high-profile statements or personnel reshuffles—that will show how effective the decisions made were. He made these remarks in an interview with Liga.net.
