Ukrainians imported more than 169,000 cars—which models were the most popular?

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainians have imported 169,100 passenger cars with a total value of nearly 96.6 billion hryvnias. More than 70% of all imported vehicles were used cars, and gasoline-powered models remained the most popular.

According to the State Customs Service, gasoline-powered cars accounted for 54.5% of total imports. Next in popularity were diesel cars, electric vehicles, and hybrids.

According to customs officials, used cars generated the largest revenue for the budget—17.7 billion hryvnias in customs duties. The state received an additional 14.4 billion hryvnias from the import of new passenger cars.

Gasoline-powered cars remain the most popular among Ukrainians—they accounted for 54.5% of the total number of imported cars. Diesel models came in second (20.3%), ahead of both electric vehicles (13%) and hybrids (12.1%).

At the same time, hybrid cars turned out to be the most expensive—their average price was nearly $27,000. By comparison, the average price of a diesel car reached $16,000, an electric car—over $10,000, and a gasoline-powered car—about $9,000.

Gasoline-powered cars generated the most customs duties—14.6 billion hryvnias. Diesel models contributed 8.4 billion hryvnias to the budget, hybrids—7.1 billion hryvnias, and electric vehicles—2 billion hryvnias.

In total, passenger car imports generated 32.1 billion hryvnia in customs duties for the state budget during the first half of 2026.

Cars were imported into Ukraine from more than 50 countries, but the largest suppliers remain the United States, from which 73,200 cars were imported (43% of the total), Germany—17,300 (10%), and Poland—14,600 (9%). Together, these three countries account for 62% of all passenger cars imported since the beginning of the year.

This was reported by the State Customs Service.

Used car imports in Ukraine are breaking records amid tax changes.

The National Police plan to establish special patrol units in regional centers that will be the first to respond to shootings and active shooter threats. Police officers assigned to these units will receive specialized training and be prepared to handle critical situations.
