There is a chance that five negotiation clusters will be launched in July — Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Cyprus for its successful presidency of the Council of the European Union, during which Ukraine officially began negotiations on accession to the European Union.
At the same time, the head of state congratulated Ireland on the start of its presidency, expressing his expectation of rapid progress in the integration process as early as July.
Over the past six months, Ukraine has made significant strides in European integration, particularly thanks to the opening of the first negotiation cluster.
“I thank Cyprus for its fruitful and substantive presidency of the Council of the European Union. Over the past six months, we have managed to open the first negotiation cluster and officially launch negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. We have activated a financial support package from the European Union worth 90 billion euros. The 20th package of sanctions against Russia was approved. All these historic steps have made Ukraine and our Europe stronger. I am grateful for such effective work and our cooperation,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Now that Ireland is taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU, Ukraine is counting on maintaining this high pace of cooperation.
The President emphasized that not a single month of this half-year should be wasted, as there are real opportunities for rapid progress.
“We welcome this and very much hope that we will not lose a single month in this half-year. Now, in July, there is a good chance of opening the remaining five negotiation clusters. There are no substantive obstacles to this. We also expect that fair pressure on Russia will continue to increase,” the head of state emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that, thanks to the imposition of far-reaching sanctions, Russia has become particularly vulnerable to economic pressure.
That is why, in his view, Europe must build on these successes with new, decisive steps in cooperation with its partners.
