Former hospital director in Bukovina to face trial over bonuses and COVID-19 payments
In the Chernivtsi region, an indictment has been filed against the former director of a public hospital, who is suspected of embezzlement, misappropriation, and money laundering involving public funds.
According to the investigation, in 2021–2022, the official systematically awarded himself bonuses, allowances, and other payments without the consent of the hospital’s founder.
In addition, he allegedly organized the payment of “COVID-related” bonuses to employees who were not involved in treating patients with COVID-19. The investigation identifies recipients of such payments as employees of the accounting department, the economic department, the human resources department, security guards, and technical and administrative staff.
According to law enforcement estimates, these actions caused the municipal facility losses totaling over 1.5 million hryvnias.
The former director is charged with embezzlement through abuse of office, misappropriation of property on a particularly large scale, and money laundering.
The indictment has now been submitted to the court for trial.
At the same time, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law and by a final court conviction.
