Former lawmaker Mykyta was ordered to undergo a preventive measure in the Forest Gump case: court ruling

The High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a preventive measure on former People’s Deputy Maksym Mykytas. He is one of the individuals implicated in the investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) related to the “Midas” case.

What the court decided

The High Anti-Corruption Court remanded Mykytas, a suspect in the “Forest Gump” case, into custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 30 million hryvnias.

Mykitas will be subject to certain conditions (such as appearing in court and wearing an electronic ankle monitor) and may file an appeal within 5 days.

What the prosecution requested

The prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office requested that Mykytas be held in custody with an alternative bail of 200 million hryvnias.

The hearing on the motion for a preventive measure resumed today—the judge had adjourned the session the previous day.

What the attorney and Mykytas said

Mykitas’s lawyer said that the prosecution’s claims that there is a risk the former MP might flee are baseless and unsupported by evidence.

The former MP Mykytas himself said that he would not challenge the notice of suspicion, but asked the court to make a balanced decision and grant moderate bail or house arrest.

This was reported with reference to the High Anti-Corruption Court hearing.

As a reminder, searches are being conducted at Sens Bank as part of a special anti-corruption operation by NABU and the SAPO.

NABU and the SAP announced a special operation to expose a criminal organization which, according to preliminary data, operated under the leadership of current and former members of the Ukrainian Parliament and with the participation of high-ranking officials from the Office of the President and other individuals.

As part of the “Forest Gump” anti-corruption special operation, searches are also being conducted at the residence of Iryna Mudra, deputy head of the Office of the President.

NABU and the SAPO have released wiretap recordings in connection with the “Forest Gump” anti-corruption special operation.
