The former head of the Rivne Regional Tax Office will stand trial for embezzling more than 830,000 hryvnias
The former head of the Rivne Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support is set to stand trial for negligence that caused the state to suffer losses of over 830,000 hryvnias during the procurement of vehicles for the army.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation has now been fully completed, and the indictment against the former high-ranking official has already been sent for trial.
The investigation established that, under a defense contract, a private company supplied 16 pickup trucks for military use at a total cost of over 17.5 million hryvnias. In doing so, the supplier artificially inflated the cost of the vehicles in advance to obtain illegal excess profits. The then-head of the regional TCC and SP failed to properly oversee the procurement process and ensure compliance with market prices, which led to the embezzlement of budget funds.
Evidence of the former official’s involvement in the offense was gathered by operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Rivne Oblast. The accused’s actions have been classified as dereliction of duty resulting in serious consequences. The former military commissar faces up to eight years in prison for his actions.
The State Bureau of Investigations has notified a former military unit commander from Khmelnytskyi region of his status as a suspect. According to the investigation, he organized a scheme to evade military service, through which the state lost approximately 1 million hryvnias. Law enforcement officials claim that instead of performing their duties, the servicemen worked at a car repair shop.
The SBU uncovered a scheme toavoid mobilization through fictitious lyceums.
