Luxury cars, weapons, and millions in cash: The State Bureau of Investigation dismantled a corruption ring within the police
During a large-scale special operation, law enforcement officials detained five individuals involved in a corruption scheme, including heads of regional departments of the National Police of Ukraine.
This was reported by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
Authorities seized a fleet of six luxury vehicles, five expensive Swiss watches, and firearms and cold weapons from the suspects.
Law enforcement officers also discovered mobile phones and significant amounts of cash in various currencies, with a total value exceeding 22.6 million hryvnias.
A large-scale purge of law enforcement ranks has exposed the systematic acceptance of bribes by the agency’s top management.
Among the suspects were the head of the Main Department of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, his deputy, the first deputy head of the Main Department of the National Police in Ternopil Oblast, and the deputy head of the Main Department of the National Police in Zhytomyr Oblast.
The actions of these high-ranking officials are classified under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
A driver from the vehicle fleet of the State Agency “Service Center for MIA Units” played a key role in the criminal scheme, acting as an intermediary between interested parties and police leadership.
He is charged with incitement and aiding and abetting in the receipt of an unlawful benefit on an especially large scale under Parts 4 and 5 of Article 27 and Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation proved that the money was transferred in exchange for refraining from taking actions using his official position in the interests of third parties.
