Energoatom has named its new interim head
The Supervisory Board of JSC “Energoatom” has appointed Oleksandr Ostapovets as interim acting chairman of the company’s management board. He will lead the company until the new permanent members of the management board take office.
At the same time, the Supervisory Board relieved Pavlo Kovtonyuk of his duties as chairman and member of the company’s Management Board. This decision was made following an assessment of the status of implementation of the Supervisory Board’s decisions and directives. Based on the results of this assessment, the board members concluded that they had lost confidence in Kovtonyuk’s ability to ensure the proper execution of assigned tasks and to continue managing the company.
The Supervisory Board emphasized that the effective implementation of its decisions, managerial accountability, and adherence to the principles of sound corporate governance are fundamental requirements for Energoatom’s leadership.
Ostapovets will lead the company during the transition period. At this time, Energoatom is preparing for the heating season and continues to operate under martial law.
The interim head’s tasks include ensuring stable management of the company, implementing the Supervisory Board’s decisions, and facilitating an orderly transition to a new permanent management team.
Oleksandr Ostapovets has many years of experience in the nuclear power industry. He began his career as a reactor plant operator at the Rivne NPP. He later served as shift supervisor of Reactor Shop No. 2, deputy head of Reactor Shop operations, managed personnel training departments, and held the position of deputy general director for human resources at the Rivne NPP.
From 2016 to August 2019, Ostapovets headed the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. He later served as executive director of human resources at Energoatom, and since June 2021, he has been acting first vice president and technical director of the company. In November 2021, he was also elected president of the Ukrainian Nuclear Forum association. In the following years, Ostapovets held senior positions at Energoatom, including serving as General Inspector and Director of Safety, and acting as a member of the company’s Management Board.
Until the transition to the new leadership is complete, Energoatom’s Supervisory Board will exercise enhanced oversight over the company’s management and the implementation of its decisions.
Earlier, Energoatom suspended some employees from work pending an anti-corruption investigation.
Energoatom’s Supervisory Board announced an independent audit following searches conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) in the Midas case.
Pavlo Kovtonyuk, the interim acting chairman of the board of JSC “NAEK ‘Energoatom’,” earned 5.64 million hryvnias during his tenure.
