The European Commission has responded to the allegations against the director of NABU
The European Commission stated that it is closely monitoring corruption investigations in Ukraine, emphasizing its principled policy of zero tolerance for corruption and the key role that combating corruption plays in the country’s accession to the European Union.
Commenting on reports regarding allegations against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos, European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier emphasized that independent anti-corruption bodies are the cornerstone of the rule of law, and Ukraine must ensure their protection.
At the same time, he noted that the very fact that high-level investigations are being conducted demonstrates the existence and capacity of the relevant institutions to carry out their work. In addition, the spokesperson confirmed that the list of 10 priority reforms agreed upon with the European Commission—the so-called “Kachka-Kos” list—includes a requirement that the Prosecutor General be selected through a competitive process.

The Anti-Corruption Action Center stated that Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko left Ukraine after signing the notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos. The Anti-Corruption Action Center claims that this may have been done in exchange for the opportunity to leave the country.
