In the Cherkasy region, efforts are underway to extinguish a large-scale forest fire that broke out after a farm building caught fire in the village of Kumeiki, Cherkasy District.
The fire broke out on August 18 on the grounds of a private residence in the village of Kumeiki.
Initially, a farm building caught fire, but due to strong gusts of wind, the fire quickly spread to the adjacent forest and a landfill.
According to the State Emergency Service, the fire has now been contained within an area of about 100 hectares.
A total of 55 pieces of equipment and 208 rescue workers have been deployed to extinguish the blaze.
Working alongside State Emergency Service units are the local fire brigade from the village of Yasnoziria, the National University of Civil Protection and Emergency Situations’ training fire and rescue unit, and forestry workers.
The State Emergency Service noted that, in total, 456 fires broke out in Ukraine’s ecosystems over the past 24 hours, covering an area of more than 375 hectares.
“In total, over the past 24 hours, 456 fires broke out in Ukraine’s ecosystems, covering a total area of more than 375 hectares. We urge everyone to follow fire safety rules: do not burn dry grass and protect our ecosystems!” the statement reads.
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center had previously warned of an extreme fire danger level in most regions of the country.
“From August 18–20, there will be an extreme fire danger level in Ukraine, except for the Volyn, Lviv, and Zakarpattia regions,” experts emphasized.
Rescue workers are urging citizens not to burn dry vegetation, not to leave fires unattended, and to follow fire safety rules, especially in strong winds.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service.
As a reminder, on August 18 in Kropyvnytskyi, following a fire, laboratory tests revealed a deterioration in air quality and concentrations of several harmful substances exceeding permissible limits. This was reported by Andriy Raikovych, head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration.
