A new breeding season has begun at the nationally famous stork nest of Odarka and Hrytsyk, located in the Poltava region.
Researcher Iryna Sarazhynska reported the appearance of the first egg of the season, which the birds laid on the night of April 13.
According to the expert, the event was recorded at 11:54 p.m. Scientists speculate that the first egg may be the result of Odarka mating with a stork named Lel, who was the first to show activity in the nest this year.
“Hundreds of viewers have finally awaited this welcome news live on air. We began expecting the first egg on April 12, because observations of Odarka show that in 2024 and 2025, she laid her first egg seven days after the ‘pyramid,’ that is, after mating,” said Iryna Sarazhynska.
This year, the birds’ biological rhythm has changed slightly, and the wait has stretched to eight days instead of the usual seven.
Despite the slight delay, the process is proceeding naturally, sparking significant interest among thousands of viewers who are following the stork family’s life in real time.
Based on years of observing this pair, researchers have already predicted when the next egg will appear. Experts expect the nest to be replenished as early as today, April 15, in the evening.
