A village head in the Ternopil region is suspected of illegally logging trees worth over 8 million hryvnias
In the Ternopil region, law enforcement officials have notified the head of one of the local communities that he is under investigation for the illegal felling of trees in the "Zagrebellya" Regional Landscape Park.
This was reported by the prosecutor’s office.
According to the investigation, the official organized the clearing of the territory within the nature reserve, despite a ban on such work. To do this, he enlisted the help of municipal services, providing them with equipment and tools.
It is noted that the workers carried out the work without knowing it was illegal.

As a result, 248 trees of various species were destroyed. According to the expert assessment, the damage to the environment amounts to over 8.2 million hryvnias.
The suspect’s actions have been classified under the article on intentional damage to objects of the nature reserve fund, resulting in serious consequences.
He faces 5 to 12 years in prison.
