How the fountains in downtown Kyiv will operate in 2026
In time for Kyiv Day, three well-known fountains in the heart of the capital will partially resume operation. In particular, the famous “Founders of Kyiv” fountain complex will once again be open to residents and visitors.
This was officially announced by the specialized water management utility “Kyivvodfond.”
In addition, the Cascade Fountain on Independence Square and the fountain at 25 Khreshchatyk Street will be operational throughout the holiday weekend.
The utility company noted that the launch of these attractions is a symbolic step to bring people a little light, coolness, and a sense of a peaceful Kyiv.
A special highlight of the holiday season will be the “Founders of Kyiv” fountain on Independence Square, created by renowned sculptor Anatoliy Kushch.
At the same time, city officials clearly emphasized that there will not be a full fountain season in the capital, as there was in peacetime.
Operating large-scale installations requires significant financial costs and a substantial amount of electricity, which is too great a luxury under current conditions.
Experts have thoroughly inspected the hydraulic structures and prepared only a select few locations for operation.
“Unfortunately, high-tech light-and-music fountains will not be activated until the war ends. This is a deliberate and responsible decision, made with the need for rational resource use in mind,” the municipal officials warned.
The rest of the city’s large fountains will remain mothballed under the supervision of experts until the security situation in the country changes completely.
