UNICEF has allocated tens of millions of hryvnias in aid for children with disabilities
UNICEF has allocated over 50 million hryvnias in aid for children with disabilities in subgroup A across nine frontline regions of Ukraine. Funds have already begun to be transferred to the bank accounts of families who have been verified and meet the program’s eligibility criteria. This was reported by the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine.
This is a large-scale support program under which financial assistance is provided to families with children with disabilities in the Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions. In total, nearly 8,000 children in this category are eligible for payments.
According to the ministry, the payments are made as part of a UNICEF program supported by the UK government. Prior to this, the data on recipients was verified by the State Enterprise “IOC of the Ministry of Social Policy” and the Pension Fund of Ukraine, after which the final lists were compiled. The ministry notes that the total amount of funds allocated is 50.4 million hryvnias. The assistance is sent to one of the child’s legal representatives who is already receiving state social support.
The funds are deposited into the same bank account where other social payments are received and can be used for any of the child’s needs without restrictions. At the same time, the payment is not provided to families who have already received a one-time benefit under the “Winter Support” program during the 2025/2026 heating season.
The ministry emphasizes that the program aims to provide additional support to families with the most vulnerable children during wartime.
In 2025, Ukraine recorded a record number of civilian deaths since the start of the full-scale war. According to official data, Russia remains the biggest violator of human rights, and the number of victims and the extent of destruction continue to rise.
