SAP Head Klymenko Responded to Accusations by *The Economist*
Oleksandr Klymenko, head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, responded to an article in *The Economist* about the alleged rise in the influence of anti-corruption agencies in Ukraine. He addressed allegations regarding the formation of “parallel government bodies.”
According to him, it is difficult for anti-corruption agencies to counter such accusations, which is why officials regularly hold explanatory meetings with foreign diplomats and representatives of international partners.
The head of the SAPO emphasized the absurdity of accusations that dates for high-profile investigations are chosen to coincide with specific political contexts. He explained that complex operations are planned in advance and take months to carry out, and the date of execution is often determined several weeks before it takes place, when it is impossible to predict future political events.
“Perhaps we should invite some expert in astrology or feng shui to tell us that this is the best date for the operation. Then we could freely go out in public and say that the date was chosen based on the recommendations of feng shui experts, so there’s no politics involved here,” Klymenko concluded ironically.
