Kyiv woman attempts to smuggle over 200 antique coins to Poland
Ukrainian customs officers have uncovered an attempt to illegally export antiques abroad. During an inspection of a passenger’s belongings, they discovered more than 200 coins dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
It was established that a resident of Kyiv had planned to transport them to Poland. The seized items are of historical and cultural value, and their export without the appropriate permits is prohibited.
This was reported by the Volyn Customs Service.
According to officials, the incident occurred at the Yahodyn customs post. The woman was travelling on the Kyiv–Chełm train. During a search of her belongings, customs officers discovered 223 coins.
“Volyn customs officers at the Yahodyn post, in cooperation with representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Volyn region, uncovered a Kyiv resident who attempted to take antique coins to Poland,” the statement said.

According to customs officials, the woman had carefully prepared for the trip, concealing the antique coins in various parts of her clothing, which was tightly packed in a suitcase.

“In total, 223 coins minted in the 16th–18th centuries were hidden in different parts of clothing packed in a suitcase. She was leaving Ukraine as a passenger on the Kyiv–Chełm train,” customs officers said.
It is also reported that the entire collection has been seized and sent for expert examination to determine its exact value and historical significance. Legal proceedings have been initiated for concealing goods from customs control.

“If the preliminary legal classification is confirmed during the pre-trial investigation, the smuggling of cultural valuables is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to seven years,” customs officials added.
It should be noted that there are restrictions on what can be brought into Ukraine from Poland.
It was also reported that Ukrainian Railways has increased the price of bed linen.
In Zakarpattia, customs officers also seized undeclared branded goods worth UAH 1.8 million.
