A 13-year-old boy died in a train accident in the Kyiv region

A tragic incident involving train hopping occurred in the Kyiv region. Three teenagers climbed onto the roof of a rail tanker at one of the stations, where a 13-year-old boy was electrocuted. The child died from his injuries.

Law enforcement officials report that since the beginning of 2026, 12 cases of train hopping among minors have already been recorded in the region. One of them resulted in the death of a teenager, once again drawing attention to the dangers of such activities on the railroad.

According to law enforcement, minors attempt to cling to train cars and commuter trains or climb onto the roofs of rolling stock for the sake of videos for social media and the thrill of extreme experiences.

As a result of such actions, a 13-year-old boy died in the Bila Tserkva region. The police have not specified exactly when the tragedy occurred. Three teenagers climbed onto the roof of a tank car at a railway station, where one of them was electrocuted. Medical personnel were unable to save the child’s life.

Regarding other reported cases, juvenile police officers conducted preventive discussions. Additionally, seven parents were held administratively liable under Article 184 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (failure of parents to fulfill their duties regarding the upbringing of children).

The police remind the public that the consequences of train surfing include severe high-voltage burns, falls from heights, injuries, and fatalities.

This was reported with reference to the Kyiv Regional Police.
