The Rada has no candidate for the position of Prosecutor General following Kravchenko's resignation
Following the resignation of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, the Verkhovna Rada should hold an open competition for the position of prosecutor general. According to the lawmaker, there is currently no suitable candidate for the position of acting prosecutor general due to the investigation into the “Carthage” case.
According to him, the main question is who should head the Office of the Prosecutor General following Ruslan Kravchenko’s resignation.
“Right now, there isn’t even a person who could assume the status of acting Prosecutor General. And I believe this moment is the best time for us, as members of parliament, to take advantage of the situation and hold an open competition for the position of Prosecutor General,” Kytsak noted.
According to Bohdan Kitsak, an open competition could provide an opportunity to completely overhaul the system within the Office of the Prosecutor General.
At the same time, the lawmaker emphasized that not all individuals implicated in the “Carthage” special operation have been identified yet.
“I see a key problem in the fact that, in connection with the ‘Carthage’ special operation, we have not yet received a complete list of the names of the people involved in this shameful practice—the protection racket involving call centers. Once we confirm that the current deputies are in no way involved in this, the pool of candidates for the acting prosecutor general position may narrow,” Kitsak said.
Bogdan Kitsak believes that appointing an acting Prosecutor General without a thorough vetting of candidates could lead to a new scandal.
“It turns out that if we appoint an acting prosecutor general now, he’ll be implicated in some case a month later—or in the same ‘Carthage’ scandal. And we’ll be stuck in this vicious cycle all over again. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, we must pass a law on competitive selection now and launch this selection process,” added Kitsak.
Thus, the MP proposes not to limit the process to appointing an interim head, but to launch an open selection process for a new Prosecutor General.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko stated that being abroad does not exempt one from responsibility for committed offenses. He made this comment in response to the arrest in Bratislava of a former high-ranking official of the Ukrainian Football Federation who was wanted by Ukrainian law enforcement.
The day before, Ruslan Kravchenko spoke out about pressure being exerted on members of parliament ahead of the Verkhovna Rada’s vote on his dismissal as Prosecutor General. He called on lawmakers to make their own decision, free from the influence of other government bodies.
As a reminder, the Rada supported Ruslan Kravchenko’s dismissal from the post of Prosecutor General.
Kravchenko presented tracking information for a mail package containing evidence implicating Kryvonos.
