Klitschko announced an additional 9 billion hryvnia to prepare Kyiv for winter
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that members of the Kyiv City Council plan to allocate an additional 9 billion hryvnias to prepare the capital for the heating season and implement energy resilience measures. According to him, the city has already reached an agreement with the government regarding the priority implementation of energy projects. Klitschko also announced that he is preparing a corresponding appeal to the central government.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this today, May 14, during a plenary session of the Kyiv City Council.
According to Klitschko, specifically, 1.25 billion hryvnias will be allocated from the city budget to the State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Ukraine’s Infrastructure. These funds will be used to purchase heating equipment for the construction of a backup heat supply system.
Klitschko noted that in Kyiv, as part of the implementation of the energy resilience plan, work is underway to restore energy facilities damaged during shelling and to install engineering protection. The development of distributed cogeneration and the resilience of water supply and wastewater systems is also continuing; the development of backup heat supply sources is underway.
“In addition, I would like to remind you that Kyiv is implementing large-scale projects to increase the energy self-sufficiency of the housing stock. Nearly two thousand residential buildings have already become energy-independent thanks to municipal support and co-financing programs,” Mayor Klitschko noted.
The mayor of the capital added that Kyiv has an agreement with the government regarding the prioritization of energy resilience measures. Their implementation will cost approximately 30 billion hryvnias. There is also an agreement that funding for the measures will be provided on a 50/50 basis—by the city and the state.
“We expect an equal partnership from the state and its financial participation. Therefore, we are submitting an official appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding financial and resource support for Kyiv’s energy resilience plan for consideration by the Kyiv City Council today. This appeal is necessary to formalize and solidify our agreements,” Klitschko said.
Klitschko’s deputy, Petro Panteleev, reported on the capital’s preparations for the upcoming heating season and measures to implement the energy resilience plan. Part of the plenary session was held behind closed doors.
