A doctor in Lviv died from hemlock poisoning
A fatal case of poisoning from a wild plant has been reported in Lviv—renowned sports physician Zynoviy Polyansky has died.
This was reported by the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to experts, the man and a woman consumed hellebore, mistaking it for edible wild garlic. They purchased the greens at a local market and prepared a salad with them.
After eating it, both fell ill and were hospitalized. The man’s condition rapidly deteriorated, and despite the doctors’ efforts, they were unable to save him. The woman remains under medical supervision; her condition is assessed as moderate.

Experts emphasize that hellebore is a deadly plant that is easily confused with wild garlic.
The center urges people to buy greens only from trusted sources and not to consume wild plants without being certain of their safety.
