Lithuania and Ukraine are stepping up cooperation to prevent drone incidents
During his visit to Ukraine, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas discussed with Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov measures to prevent drones from entering the airspace of neighboring countries.
This was reported by LRT.
The parties analyzed recent incidents of border violations in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia caused by Russian actions. Kaunas emphasized that the root cause of such incidents is Russian aggression and underscored Ukraine’s right to self-defense. The main goal of the consultations was to develop joint measures to minimize risks for the Baltic states amid active hostilities.
In addition to security issues, the ministers noted significant progress in cooperation between defense enterprises of both countries. Lithuania and Ukraine plan to deepen industrial cooperation to manufacture countermeasures against air threats. Robertas Kaunas noted that stability in the region directly depends on Putin’s ability to end the war, which the aggressor is currently failing to do. Currently, the agencies are preparing technical protocols for a more efficient exchange of data on the movement of objects in border zones. The joint work will continue as part of a broader strategy to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
Meanwhile, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed that the drone that flew in from Russian territory and crashed belonged to Ukraine.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds decided to immediately end his visit to Ukraine and return home.
