Customs officials in Lviv discovered suspicious items in international packages bound for Poland
Officers at the “Lviv-Postal” customs post discovered suspicious items while inspecting international shipments from the Kirovohrad region to Poland. To determine their origin and value, the items were sent for expert analysis.
According to experts, a white powdery substance containing the active ingredient mephedrone was hidden inside children’s toys.
According to the List of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, and Precursors, approved by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the circulation of mephedrone in Ukraine is prohibited.
Information regarding this incident was immediately forwarded to law enforcement agencies.
As the investigation established, the organizer of the illegal scheme was a resident of Kropyvnytskyi.
During searches of the suspect’s residence, law enforcement officers seized physical evidence confirming his involvement in organizing a channel for smuggling psychotropic substances.
Currently, SBU investigators have notified the suspect that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues, committed on a large scale).
The operation to uncover the criminal activity was carried out by SBU officers in the Kirovohrad region, under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
