Industrial looting is surging in Ukraine following Russian attacks

Industrial looting is surging in Ukraine following Russian attacks

So-called industrial looting is on the rise in Ukraine. Following Russian strikes on logistics centers, carrier warehouses, pharmaceutical companies, electronics distributors, and retail chains, people are being found who, for a fee, remove undamaged property from the damaged facilities.

According to market participants, the stolen goods are subsequently sold through online platforms, social media, and informal markets. Business representatives note that the scale of such incidents has grown significantly, and organized theft schemes are causing companies additional losses in the wake of Russian shelling.

“Destroyed warehouses and logistics centers have given rise to a separate industry of industrial looting. And we’re not talking here about a private initiative, where some idiot decides to climb over a fence to grab some stolen goods. We’re talking about the systematic ‘removal’ of property from destroyed facilities, followed by the centralized sale of the looted goods,” he noted.

According to the journalist, there are entire groups on Telegram where coordinators provide the coordinates of arrival points, the sites to visit, and the categories of goods to be removed from there.

“Dozens of operatives (mostly criminals and homeless people) respond to the call; they swarm the sites like cockroaches and gather whatever they need from the ruins. These people then haul the looted goods to the addresses of looting warehouses specified in those same groups, where they receive the promised reward for their work,” Plinsky explained.

The looted goods are then sold on various online platforms and at markets, the journalist claims.

“According to my information, the National Police are already actively working on this issue. But I believe that this situation also requires some public attention and a few high-profile cases resulting in severe punishment,” he concluded.

Journalist Yevhen Plinsky writes about this on his Telegram channel “Dirty Games.”
