Magnetic Storms on August 6–8: When Increased Geomagnetic Activity Is Expected
On August 6, the geomagnetic situation on Earth will remain calm, as the solar wind speed has dropped to background levels. At the same time, geomagnetic activity may increase on August 7–8, and a weak G1-level magnetic storm cannot be ruled out on August 8.
According to experts’ forecasts, the likelihood of strong magnetic storms on August 6 will be minimal.
Earth’s magnetosphere will remain calm due to the decrease in solar wind speed.
As astronomers note, several coronal mass ejections were recorded on August 3–4. Although most of them are not directed directly at Earth, some streams of solar plasma may partially affect the planet’s magnetosphere.
As a result, a gradual increase in geomagnetic activity is expected on August 7. Isolated periods of activity are possible throughout the day, but no strong magnetic storms are currently forecast.
According to preliminary forecasts, August 8 may be the most active day. On this day, a glancing strike of solar plasma is possible, which could trigger a weak G1-level magnetic storm.
Such geomagnetic storms are considered minor, but people sensitive to weather changes may experience a decline in well-being. Possible symptoms include:
- headaches;
- increased fatigue;
- drowsiness;
- fluctuations in blood pressure;
- decreased concentration.
Experts note that, overall, the outlook remains favorable. If the impact of solar emissions turns out to be weaker than expected, the Earth’s magnetosphere will remain only moderately disturbed, without the development of a full-scale magnetic storm.
