Meteorologists are forecasting a warm summer with sufficient rainfall in Ukraine

Meteorologists are forecasting a warm summer with sufficient rainfall in Ukraine

The upcoming summer season of 2026 in Ukraine will be marked by the absence of prolonged abnormal heat and a significant amount of rainfall.

According to scientists, weather conditions will largely resemble those of the previous year, when atmospheric processes became more stable.

Vazira Martazinova, a professor at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute, notes that the prolonged periods of sweltering heat observed in the past are not expected this year.

“I do not expect the prolonged heat waves that were observed two years ago in July and August,” the expert emphasized during her presentation.

According to meteorologists, it is currently advisable to use the data from the summer of 2025 as a reference, since the atmospheric cycles of the past year and a half have been long-lasting.

Although some days will be hot, high temperatures will not persist for long periods.

An important aspect of this season will be soil moisture and regular precipitation.

Martazinova predicts that there will be plenty of rain: “Last year, there was already more rain than in 2024, and this year we also expect there to be plenty.”

At the same time, Vira Balabukh, head of the Department of Applied Meteorology, adds that the average temperature for the season may be 1–2 degrees higher than the climatic norm.

The most noticeable temperature anomalies are likely in the northeastern regions of the country, where a slight moisture deficit is also possible.

Experts caution that long-term forecasts are conservative and may sometimes be underestimated.

For example, last winter’s experience showed that even a low probability of severe frosts—10–30%—can materialize in certain regions of Ukraine.

Global forecasting centers, including the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, update their data monthly.

Therefore, the May updates may introduce certain adjustments to the overall picture of the expected summer season.

It is worth noting that global climate processes continue to be influenced by human decisions.

After a spell of warm weather, atmospheric fronts are moving into Ukraine, which will cause a deterioration in weather conditions.

Cold weather in Ukraine will persist until the end of April
