Ukraine warns Belarus of the consequences of any potential actions

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated from Slavutych that Ukraine is prepared to take preemptive action in the event of threats from Belarus and Russia’s border regions. According to him, the situation in the north requires additional reinforcement of defenses and a focus on community safety. The president also specifically warned the Belarusian leadership of the possible consequences of any aggressive moves.

During a trip to Slavutych in the Kyiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a statement regarding the security situation in the north, where Ukraine borders Belarus and Russian regions. He emphasized that the state is not merely reacting to threats but is preparing preemptive measures to prevent a repeat of scenarios leading to the outbreak of full-scale war.

The head of state reported that he had met with community leaders from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, where they discussed strengthening territorial defenses, building fortifications, and generally reinforcing the border. They also discussed the work of the Defense Forces in this area and the coordination of actions in the event of an escalation of the situation.

Zelenskyy directly addressed the Belarusian leadership and the Russian side, stating that Ukraine is closely monitoring all risks and is ready to respond firmly. “We have the capacity to strengthen our defenses, and we have the capacity to take preemptive action regarding Russian territories—a threat could come from there—and regarding the de facto leadership of Belarus, which must be on high alert, that is, truly understand that there will be consequences if there are aggressive actions against Ukraine, against our people,” the president said.

He recalled that Ukraine remembers well the events of 2022, when part of the Russian military offensive took place precisely from Belarusian territory, and emphasized that this experience has influenced the country’s current defense strategy. “We remember that in 2022, the offensive also came from Belarusian territory. We will not forget this,” Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, security agencies, and intelligence are currently operating in a mode of constant threat monitoring and are ready to respond “fairly and unconditionally” in the event of any aggressive actions.

Alexander Lukashenko stated that he is allegedly ready to visit Ukraine and discuss relations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In Kyiv, the reaction to such statements was as restrained and firm as possible, with officials reminding him of Belarus’s role in the war.
