Mykitas defended Mudra in court and spoke of her self-sacrifice
During a hearing of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court, former People’s Deputy Maksym Mykytas spoke out in defense of Iryna Mudra, the former deputy head of the Office of the President. He called her a person “with a capital P” and stated that she had allegedly acted at the cost of her own reputation, career, and possibly even her life.
Mykitas participated in the session via video conference. Addressing the judges, he spoke highly of Mudra and stated that she had represented Ukraine with dignity on the international stage.
“She has represented our country with great dignity at various levels of the global political community in the fight against Russian aggression. She has boldly advocated for the creation of global institutions to ensure future punishment for criminals,” Mykyta said.
He also called Mudra “a person with a capital ‘P’ and a crystal-clear reputation.” According to the former lawmaker, she possesses “a sense of state responsibility far greater than that of 90 percent of officials combined.”
Separately, Mykyta stated that Mudra allegedly tried to act in the interests of the state, even at the risk of her own reputation and career. “She desperately and selflessly tried to do something at the cost of her own reputation, career, and perhaps even her life,” he emphasized.
Mykitas also stated that if any violations of the law are found, he alone should bear the responsibility. “If the law was violated anywhere, then the responsibility lies with me, and I alone must answer for it,” said the former lawmaker.
Earlier, during a court hearing, Iryna Mudra herself referred to Mykytas as a “close person.” She claimed that he “betrayed her trust.” According to Mudra and her defense team, it was Mykyta who could have recorded most of the conversations that later became the basis for the allegations against her.
