The Ministry of Education and Science is preparing schools for possible power outages this winter

Ukrainian schools are preparing for possible prolonged power outages during the fall and winter months.

In the event of power outages or a deterioration in the security situation, classes may be organized according to a revised schedule.

Specifically, schools will be able to adjust vacation dates, combine in-person and remote learning, redistribute instructional time, and adjust their academic and thematic schedules.

To strengthen the energy resilience of educational institutions, the government has allocated nearly 500 million hryvnias. These funds will be used to install inverters, battery systems with at least eight hours of autonomy, solar power plants, and generators.

The total cost of the selected projects is 477.3 million hryvnias. All work must be completed by November 15, 2026.

The specific format of instruction will depend on the situation at each school.

The twelfth underground school has opened in Zaporizhzhia—a modern space for safe in-person learning at Gymnasium No. 84. The school was built according to the principles of inclusivity and accessibility, and the spacious classrooms are equipped with all the necessary equipment and furniture.

As a reminder, construction of another “underground school” began in the Zaporizhzhia region in October. This will be the eighth educational institution of this type.
