In Kyiv, a woman illegally expanded her apartment to turn it into a beauty salon
In Kyiv’s Desnianskyi District, a 50-year-old woman built an extension to her apartment without the necessary permits and set up a beauty salon there. To do so, she unlawfully occupied a plot of land near the building. Police informed the woman that she was suspected of unauthorized construction.
The case involves the owner of a three-room apartment on the first floor of a building on Chervona Kalina Avenue. According to law enforcement officials, the woman decided to expand her living space and built a separate addition to her apartment. However, she did not obtain the necessary construction permits. In addition, she unlawfully occupied a plot of land near the building to carry out the work.
The extension was converted into a beauty salon. The new space had a separate entrance with stairs, so it effectively became an additional commercial space adjacent to the residential building. The resident’s illegal activities were uncovered by investigators and operatives from the Desnianskyi Police Department. Law enforcement officers worked under the procedural guidance of the Desnianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the case file, the woman did not merely remodel the interior of her own apartment but also erected a separate structure on the unlawfully occupied land. This was the basis for the criminal proceedings. Investigators notified the Kyiv resident that she is suspected of violating Part 3 of Article 197-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article establishes liability for the unauthorized construction of buildings or structures on illegally occupied land.
At the same time, the mere fact of being charged does not imply proven guilt. The final decision in the case will be made by the court after reviewing all the evidence. Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the construction and use of the attached structure.
Such cases can create problems not only in terms of the legality of the construction. Unauthorized additions can affect the appearance of the building, access to common areas, and the safety of residents.
