The Ministry of Defense has banned the premature termination of payments to the families of those missing in action
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has required all military units to continue paying the financial allowances of service members listed as missing in action until a court ruling declares them missing or a death certificate is issued.
Deputy Minister of Defense Lyubov Halan explained that previously, in some units, payments were suspended immediately after documents confirming the identification of a body were issued. As a result, families were left without support even before the fact of death or the soldier’s status had been officially established.
The relevant directive has already been communicated to military command authorities. Financial support will be paid monthly until the court decision takes effect or a death certificate is issued, inclusive of those dates. The next step for the Ministry of Defense will be to amend Order No. 280 so that the removal of a servicemember from a unit’s roster occurs solely on the basis of a death certificate.

Payments to military personnel will be made consistently and in full until the end of the year. This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi.
In the draft state budget of Ukraine for 2027, the base pay for military personnel was left at approximately 20,000 hryvnias.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed as an urgent law a bill introducing payments of 50,000 hryvnias for military personnel released from captivity.
