Amid public attention on the situation surrounding the Lukyanivskyi Detention Center, Sergei Myslyvy has once again come under scrutiny; he is referred to as the facility’s “overseer” and is linked to the case involving the abduction and torture of Euromaidan activists.
The case refers to events in January 2014, when activists Ihor Lutsenko and Yuriy Verbytsky were abducted from Oleksandrivska Hospital in Kyiv. They were taken to a forest outside Kyiv, where they were tortured. Verbytsky died from his injuries, while Lutsenko managed to survive.
Ihor Lutsenko himself had previously stated that Myslyvyy was not a mere member of the “titushky” group but played a much more significant role in the violent attacks on Maidan protesters.
In 2014, Myslyvyy was notified of the charges against him in absentia, but he disappeared and went into hiding for over five years, using forged documents. He was arrested in 2020.
Investigators believe that businessman Oleksiy Chebotaryov, a member of former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko’s inner circle, organized the abductions. According to law enforcement, it was in his office that the actions of the attackers were coordinated. Currently, Chebotaryov is, according to investigators, in hiding in Russia.
Yermak expressed respect for state institutions in court.
Former Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak stated on the evening of May 11, after receiving a notice of suspicion from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, that he would not comment on the matter during the investigation.
The European Commission commented on the Yermak case.
