Turkey has put the new TAYFUN Block-2 missiles into service

The Turkish Army has officially adopted the new TAYFUN Block-2 ballistic missiles. They can strike targets at ranges of over 500 kilometers and are designed to strike key military targets deep behind enemy lines.

The Turkish Armed Forces have completed the acceptance procedure for the new TAYFUN Block-2 ballistic missiles. This was announced during a press briefing at the country’s Ministry of National Defense.

The ministry noted that the new missiles are part of the Turkish Army’s modernization program. They were developed by the national defense industry and will be used primarily by the Army.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense stated: “As part of the ongoing modernization of the Turkish Armed Forces’ defense capabilities, utilizing the capabilities of the national defense industry, the Land Forces Command has completed the testing and acceptance procedures for a certain number of TAYFUN Block-2 missiles”.

The TAYFUN missile was developed by the Turkish company Roketsan. Today, it is considered the longest-range ballistic missile ever developed in Turkey. The first test launch took place back in October 2022. After that, engineers continued working on improving the system.

The updated TAYFUN Block-2 version was first unveiled in the fall of 2024 at the SAHA Expo international defense exhibition. According to the developers, the missile features a more precise guidance system, improved maneuverability, and a more powerful warhead.

According to the industry publication SavunmaSanayiST, the missile’s range exceeds 500 kilometers. It also reaches very high speeds, which in certain phases of flight reach hypersonic levels. At the same time, the system maintains high strike accuracy.

The primary purpose of the TAYFUN Block-2 is to strike strategic military targets. These include air defense systems, command posts, headquarters, military aircraft hangars, warehouses, and other critical facilities located far from the front lines.

The missile is approximately 6.5 meters long, has a diameter of 610 millimeters, and weighs about 2,300 kilograms. It is launched from a mobile launcher, which allows for rapid repositioning after launch and enhances the system’s survivability.

Another key feature of the system is its resistance to GPS signal jamming. This allows the missile to be used day and night, as well as in adverse weather conditions.

The development of the TAYFUN family does not stop there. In 2025, Roketsan unveiled an even newer variant—the TAYFUN Block-4. It is significantly larger than the previous version: it is about 10 meters long and weighs 7.2 metric tons. According to the manufacturer, the new system has an even greater strike range, a new mobile launcher, and a modern combat employment concept.

The introduction of the TAYFUN Block-2 into service marked another step forward for Turkey in the development of its own missile program. For several years now, the country has been actively investing in the development of its own high-precision weapon systems and gradually reducing its dependence on imported military equipment. The decision to adopt the system into service was announced at a press briefing at the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.

Millions of foreigners continue to reside in Turkey, with Syrians holding temporary protection status constituting the largest group. At the same time, the country reports that some refugees have been gradually returning to Syria in recent years.
