In Bukovina, a developer will face trial for failing to pay more than 11 million hryvnias in taxes
Law enforcement officials have referred to court a case involving the head of a housing and construction cooperative in Bukovina. According to the Bureau of Economic Security (BES), he sold 170 apartments and parking spaces but failed to pay more than 11 million hryvnias in taxes to the state budget.
Detectives from the BEB’s Chernivtsi Regional Office have completed a pretrial investigation into this matter, and the indictment against the developer has already been submitted to the court.
The investigation established that the suspect organized the construction of two apartment buildings in the village of Chagor, Chernivtsi District. To conceal his commercial activities, he formally engaged a general contractor. In reality, however, funds from buyers were transferred directly to the cooperative’s accounts, and payments for building materials and labor were made without the involvement of the contracting company.
When the cooperative’s sales volume reached the threshold requiring payment of value-added tax, the director failed to register the enterprise as a VAT payer. As a result, the state lost more than 11 million hryvnias in taxes.
Currently, the defendant’s actions have been classified under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, according to the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine.
Previously, the State Tax Service of Ukraine (STS) conducted large-scale audits of two popular electronics retail chains—“Yabko” and “Yabluka”—and uncovered serious violations related to tax evasion.
The Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine confirmed that it is conducting investigative actions regarding the “Yabko” electronics retail chain as part of an investigation into possible tax evasion and the illegal import of electronics.
