In Bukovina, law enforcement officers detained a 58-year-old man suspected of extorting $50,000from the owner of a farm.
According to the investigation, the suspect fabricated a story about a nonexistent debt and, over the course of several months, threatened the business owner with the destruction of his farm, physical violence, and the detonation of a grenade near his home or car.
Investigators also claim that during one of their meetings, the man beat the victim and threatened him with a knife.
The suspect was arrested on August 4 immediately after receiving the $50,000. The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention.
The SBU announced that it had notified a Russian intelligence officer of his status as a suspect for recruiting teenagers to carry out sabotage operations.
As a reminder, the SBU detained a woman suspected of working for Russian intelligence services.
