A large-scale forest fire that had been raging for over a week has been contained in the Chernihiv region. The fire broke out on May 5 in the Koryukivka Forest District. It engulfed a significant area of forest and continued to spread for an extended period due to dry weather and wind.
This was reported on Facebook by the “Northern Forest Office” branch.
Rescue teams and forest rangers were deployed to extinguish the fire. The fire has now been contained, and work is ongoing to fully extinguish it and monitor the area.
“A large-scale forest fire that broke out in the Koryukivka Forest District of the State Enterprise ‘Forests of Ukraine’ has been contained. Its spread has now been stopped,” the statement reads.
Forest rangers note that weather conditions—lower temperatures, rain, and a southwesterly wind—helped contain the fire.
Forest rangers have laid 129 km of firebreaks. Currently, workers continue to maintain a presence at the sites and are constantly monitoring the situation.
Firefighting operations are ongoing.
The situation is stable and under control, the agency assured.
