Rescue workers in the Chernihiv region have issued a warning about rising water levels on the Desna River

The Chernihiv Regional Center for Hydrometeorology has issued a warning about rising water levels in the Desna River and the risk of flooding in the river’s floodplain in certain areas of the region.

According to forecasters, a gradual rise in water levels is expected on the Desna River downstream of the village of Rozloty between April 28 and 30. The water level will rise by 1–4 cm per day. As a result, flooding of the floodplain near Novhorod-Siverskyi is possible, as well as disruptions to transportation in the Novhorod-Siverskyi and Koryukivka districts.

A Level I hazard alert (yellow) has been issued for the region.

As of the morning of April 28, a slow rise in water levels—within 1–2 cm per day—is also being recorded on the Seim and Desna rivers downstream of Rozloty. At the same time, a drop in water levels is observed on the Snov River following the spring flood.

As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers has instructed central government agencies and regional administrations to prepare for possible floods and high water in the spring of 2026. The government anticipates rising water levels and potential flooding and aims to prepare response resources in advance. Relevant ministries are tasked with developing support mechanisms for people and businesses.
