Construction of new main water pipelines in the Dnipropetrovsk region is set to be completed this fall

Construction of new main water pipelines in the Dnipropetrovsk region is set to be completed this fall

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Recovery Agency, is implementing a large-scale infrastructure project to construct main water pipelines, pumping and filtration stations, and wastewater networks in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Once these facilities are put into operation, they will ensure a stable supply of drinking water to more than 28,000 local residents.

This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.

For the Dnipropetrovsk region, the issue of quality water supply remains critical following the man-made and environmental disaster caused by the Russian occupiers’ destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. As noted by Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba, a significant portion of local communities have long been forced to live under conditions of acute water shortages, relying entirely on regular water deliveries by special transport due to the obsolescence and destruction of local utility networks.

The new comprehensive project is being implemented simultaneously in several communities across the region according to a clear schedule:

  • In the first community, where 18,000 residents in 35 settlements will gain stable access to the centralized system, construction work is already 75% complete. The technical launch of water supply in this area is expected in July 2026.

  • In the second community, the new water supply system will cover 14 settlements with a total population of about 11,000 people. The first test water supply is scheduled for September of this year.

As part of the construction, engineers and builders are laying over 10 km of new main water pipelines and about 7 km of modern sewer networks. This will allow the affected communities to completely eliminate the need for water deliveries, restore the stable operation of critical utility infrastructure, and improve the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the region.

Earlier, preparatory work began in Ukraine on the construction of main water pipelines for regions affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The Ukrainian government has agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to secure donor funds for the construction of a water intake from the Southern Bug River and a main water pipeline to Mykolaiv.
