In the Kharkiv region, a stepfather who raped his three stepdaughters for two years was sentenced to life in prison
The Kharkiv Court of Appeals sentenced a 50-year-old man to life in prison for sexually abusing his three minor stepdaughters over a period of two years.
Previously, the trial court had sentenced the defendant to 15 years in prison, but the prosecution appealed the verdict, considering it too lenient. The appellate court agreed with the prosecution’s arguments and handed down a life sentence.
The prosecution appealed the trial court’s verdict, emphasizing that the sentence did not reflect the severity of the crimes committed. The appellate court upheld the prosecution’s position.
According to the investigation, the man committed acts of violence against children in his own home over a period of two years. Law enforcement officials note that the crimes caused severe psychological trauma to the victims.
The prosecutor’s office stated that it continues to seek the harshest sentences in cases involving particularly serious crimes against children.
The court ordered the collection of 97 million hryvnias in fines from Mindič, a supplier of body armor.
