In the Kherson region, a company director will stand trial for embezzling 6.5 million hryvnias while in hiding

The director of a construction company will face trial for embezzling public funds during the renovation of a protective structure for a hospital in the Kherson region. The contractor inflated the cost of materials and the scope of work at the site, where operating rooms and delivery rooms were to be equipped to protect patients during shelling. 

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, noting that the indictment has already been sent to court.

The fraud was uncovered in critical ventilation and heating systems, on which people’s lives depend in enclosed spaces. According to the investigation, the head of the organization entered false data into official documents, leading to the unjustified withdrawal of over 6.5 million hryvnias from the budget. The defendant’s actions endangered the safety of women in labor and critically ill patients who were to receive care at this facility during the war with Russia.

The perpetrator is charged with official forgery and embezzlement of property on an especially large scale through abuse of official position. He faces up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The prosecutor’s office emphasizes the cynicism of the crime, as the funds were stolen from a facility intended to save lives during active hostilities. The proper functioning of the medical unit in the shelter is critical for the region, which is constantly under fire from Russia.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have completed a pre-trial investigation into the embezzlement of state funds during the procurement of food for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

Officials of the Poltava Regional Military Administration are accused of large-scale embezzlement of funds during the construction of fortifications in the Donetsk region.
