Schemes involving Apple products worth 18 million were uncovered at the border
At the “Shehyni” border crossing, border guards uncovered two attempts to illegally import Apple devices, with a total value of approximately 18 million hryvnias. The first case involved a smaller shipment, while the second involved nearly 500 devices hidden inside a bus. Both incidents were recorded by border guards from the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment.
At the Shehyni border crossing, border guards uncovered two separate attempts to illegally transport devices across the state border, involving Apple products with a total value of approximately 18 million hryvnias.
In the first case, a citizen attempted to import the devices without declaring them, claiming that he had “forgotten” to report them. Law enforcement officials estimate the value of this shipment at approximately 850 thousand hryvnias. The second incident turned out to be much larger in scale: during an inspection of a passenger bus driven by a 46-year-old woman, border guards found nearly 500 units of electronics hidden in the vehicle’s structural cavities.
According to preliminary estimates, the value of the concealed cargo is approximately 17 million hryvnias, and the vast majority of the seized devices are Apple products. “Both violators will face consequences,” the border guards reported, adding that the case materials have been forwarded for further review.
