In the Lviv region, trucks carrying food are being detained at the border under the pretext of inspections
At customs checkpoints in the Lviv region, trucks carrying perishable goods from Poland are forced to wait for long periods of time for laboratory tests to be completed. Due to these delays, carriers and owners of the goods may suffer significant losses.
On August 28, at the “Murovane” customs post of the Lviv Customs Office, a shipment of food products had been awaiting the results of laboratory tests for two days, according to the authors of the report. A similar situation, as noted, is occurring at the “Horodok” checkpoint, where the goods are inspected by the Lviv Regional State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
Such delays are particularly problematic for perishable goods—bananas, oranges, tangerines, and other products. While the trucks await the test results, the refrigerated units must run continuously, which increases carriers’ costs and creates the risk of the products losing their marketability.
The authors of the report also assert that while customs clearance may technically be completed within the legally prescribed timeframe, the actual passage of the truck is delayed due to inspection procedures conducted by the State Food and Consumer Service. At the same time, the necessity and legitimacy of prolonged detention of specific product shipments require a separate documentary assessment.
