In the Odesa region, a child was swept out to the open sea while on a tire

Near Odesa, in the area of the village of Sychavka, a 10-year-old girl was swept out to sea by a strong current while swimming on an inflatable ring, and her whereabouts have remained unknown ever since. Rescue workers, police, and other emergency services are continuously combing the coastline and the water, trying to find the child. The situation is complicated by weather conditions and currents that are quickly carrying objects away from the shore.

The incident occurred on the coast near one of the vacation resorts in the village of Sychavka, Pivdennivska community, where the girl was staying with her great-grandmother and went into the water to swim, despite the dangerous conditions and a ban on swimming in that area. According to preliminary police reports, a strong current quickly began carrying the child on an inflatable ring toward deeper water, and the adult was unable to hold onto her or pull her back to shore. It was at that very moment that the girl disappeared from view, after which search operations began immediately.

Units from the State Emergency Service and police officers are involved in the operation, working both along the shoreline and in the open water, using available resources to search the area. The search is complicated by the fact that currents and wind can quickly change the direction of objects in the water, thereby expanding the potential search area.

Law enforcement officials have released the child’s description: approximately 120–130 centimeters tall, slender build, light brown hair, and gray-blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a red swimsuit. The information has been relayed to all relevant units and shared with the public to help locate her.

A criminal case has been opened regarding the disappearance, classified as “missing person,” which allows for the rapid mobilization of resources for the search operation. The police are also urging anyone who may have seen the child or has any information to immediately contact law enforcement at the numbers provided or via the special hotline 102. Reported by the Odesa Regional Police.

Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, announced the expansion of the list of safe locations for recreation, bringing the total number of accessible beach areas in the region to 27.
