Russia spread a false story about an exhibition of Yevhen Konovalets’s relics in Lviv
A fake poster is circulating on social media for a purported exhibition at the Hnat Hotkevych Palace of Culture in Lviv, where a “fragment of the relics” of Yevhen Konovalets was allegedly to be displayed.
According to the fake reports, the event was supposed to take place on August 21. In reality, the Hnat Khotkevych Lviv Palace of Culture neither held nor planned to hold such an exhibition.
The palace’s director, Sofia Lishchynska, reported that the poster was created using graphic design software and artificial intelligence. The fake image was circulated via Russian Telegram channels.
This disinformation campaign emerged amid news reports about the reburial of Yevhen Konovalets in Ukraine.
The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that the fake is part of a Russian propaganda campaign. Its stated goals are to discredit the decision to establish a National Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians, to ridicule the honoring of national heroes, and to provoke controversy within society.

As a reminder, on August 14, a farewell ceremony for Colonel Yevhen Konovalets—founder of the Ukrainian Military Organization (UVO) and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), and commander of the Sich Riflemen Corps—was held at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
The remains of Colonel Yevhen Konovalets, a colonel in the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the first head of the OUN, were transported to Ukraine.
As a reminder, a historic reburial of Colonel Andriy Melnyk of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, Chairman of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnyk, took place at the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
