Truck traffic has been restricted in the Odesa region due to the heat

Starting June 8, seasonal restrictions on heavy-duty vehicles will be introduced on state highways within the Odesa region. These measures will be in effect during periods of high air temperatures and are intended to protect the road surface from damage during the hot season.

The restrictions will apply to freight vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 24 tons and an axle load exceeding 7 tons when air temperatures rise above +28°C. The restrictions will be in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

These temporary restrictions are being introduced to protect the road surface from deformation and damage during the hot season. This is required by the Laws of Ukraine “On Road Traffic” and “On Motorways” and Resolution No. 879 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Measures to Preserve Public Motorways.”

For temporary parking, drivers of heavy-duty vehicles may use special areas in the right-of-way of highways and near road service facilities.

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles:

• involved in emergency response operations;
• that transport dangerous or perishable cargo, live animals, and poultry;
• that carry out military transport or transport cargo for national defense needs.

Compliance with weight limits and temporary restrictions will be monitored in cooperation with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies.

“We ask carriers and truck drivers to take temperature conditions into account and plan their routes in advance,” stated the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in the Odesa region.
