A 21-year-old resident of the Zhytomyr region will stand trial on charges of plotting a terrorist attack in Rivne. According to the investigation, the man agreed to build an explosive device for $700 and leave it near a coffee shop in a crowded area.
According to investigators, the man received the offer via Telegram. An unknown individual offered him $700 to build a homemade explosive device and plant it in a crowded area.
On the outskirts of Rivne, in some bushes, the defendant picked up a backpack containing components for the explosive device. He then took them to a rented apartment, where he assembled the device. He placed the explosives in a metal container and added nuts, which were intended to serve as projectiles.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the man brought the finished explosive device to one of the cafes in Rivne and left it near the establishment.
Another participant in the plot, whose identity has not yet been established, was supposed to remotely detonate the explosive. However, law enforcement officials uncovered the preparations for the terrorist attack in time and prevented the explosion.

The Zhytomyr resident was taken into custody without the right to bail. He is charged with aiding and abetting the preparation of a terrorist attack, the illegal manufacture of an explosive device, as well as its possession and carrying without the permission required by law.
The most serious of the charges carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison, with or without confiscation of property.
