In Rivne region, the High Anti-Corruption Court increased the bail for an SBU official involved in the "Amber Scheme"

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court increased the bail amount to 3,328,000 hryvnias for an official of the Security Service of Ukraine in Rivne region who is suspected of bribery.

This was reported by the court’s press service.

“The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court considered the appeals filed by the defense and the prosecution against the ruling of the investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court dated March 18 regarding the imposition of a preventive measure in the form of detention for the deputy head of the SBU department in the Rivne region, with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 998,400 UAH. Following the review, the panel of judges of the VAKS Appeals Chamber dismissed the defense’s appeal, partially granted the prosecutor’s appeal, and increased the bail amount for the suspect to 3,328,000 UAH. The remainder of the VAKS investigating judge’s ruling was left unchanged,” the statement reads.

The decision took legal effect upon its announcement and is not subject to appeal in cassation.

Earlier, employees of the Kyiv Customs Office discovered two pieces of unprocessed amber in international mail shipments traveling from Rivne to the United Kingdom and the United States.

Over a three-month period last year, the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office took effective measures to transfer illegally mined amber found in the territories of the Olevsk, Bilokorovychi, Ovruch, Slovechansk, Hladkovychi, Ushomyr, Horshchykiv, Korosten, and Novohrad-Volynsk territorial communities to the state treasury.
